FCCNY Junior Board Applications

  • 10/15/2017

FCC of Greater New York is excited to invite Young Adult (18+) Chinese Adoptees to apply to be on their Junior Board! This new position will be led by Lisa Gibson, our young adult adoptee board member.

The purpose of the FCC Greater NY Junior Board is to have input and leadership from adoptees! This is your chance to help shape the future of FCCNY (a registered 501c3 nonprofit) and the Chinese adoptee community. In particular, because this is a new position, you will help define the role of the Junior Board. Through your role as a Junior Board member you will learn about the goals and challenges of FCCNY and adoption communities. You will be able to provide feedback to the FCCNY board and come up with new ideas to engage our families and friends. It is an exciting opportunity for you to collaborate with other young adult Chinese adoptees from the Greater NY area, to see your ideas through and bring our community together in a healthy and positive manner.

Your responsibilities are to:

- Participate in Junior Board meetings, to be held about every other month, by conference call or video chat

- Carry out any duties taken on or assigned during those meetings

- Attend at least 2 FCCNY events per term
(these can be anywhere in the Greater NY region including NJ, CT, upper and lower Hudson Valley, etc. and can be during breaks if you are not permanently in the Greater NY region)

- Commit to this position at least until September 2018 (1 term)

*You must be a Chinese adoptee turning 18 or older in the year 2017.

You will not be expected to contribute financially, though we would be grateful if you or your parents are donors or active, dues-paying, members.

You will be strongly encouraged to attend a FCCNY board meeting in Manhattan, NYC to meet the FCCNY board.

All in all, you should have fun being part of this new leadership and forming connections with other Chinese adoptees and our community. As a young adult adoptee on the board, FCCNY has trusted me in taking initiative for many projects and given me the flexibility to contribute to many areas of the organization. It is gratifying to work and speak with adoptive parents who want to learn more about supporting their children. It has also been a particularly rewarding experience for me to focus on bringing adoptees together, getting to know adoptees, and collaborating with leaders in our wider community. I am excited to be working with more of you in the near future!
~Lisa
